Network wide training events

VAGABOND will structure the PhD training at a European level and strengthen European innovation capacity, including the contribution of the non-academic sector to the research training. All of the VAGABOND members are committed to delivering high quality joint training (and mentorship) for the next 3 years and beyond, to bring on a new cohort of PhD students within a challenging and clinically important area of paediatric oncology.

VAGABOND’s training program

VAGABOND will provide local and network wide training essential for equipping the PhD student with the combination of research-related and transferable competences needed to succeed in European science and innovation sectors.

“A combination of research-related and transferable competences”

Network wide training involves 4 summer schools, 3 specialised interim courses and a personal development program. In addition, the PhD student will enrol in a local PhD graduate school program define personal choices and development of individual talents in a personal career development plan. The student will get the opportunity to gain the PMP certificate as described below and will get opportunities to supervise bachelor/master students.

External students can follow (part of) the network wide training events. More information will follow soon. 

Personal development program

PhD students will participate in a state-of-art blended learning programme BeyondU (PTO) with online interactions and engagements and six live masterclasses to unleash the potential of each individual. The personal development programme is an educational personal transformational experience. The group is a tool for the support of each individual. To engage PhD students in their journey of personal growth, weekly communication is available with a professional mentor. PhD students will develop human-skills, increase their self-awareness and boost their social emotional intelligence and professional influence. Essential for 21st century leaders who want to make an impact at work, collaborate in teams and hold a unique position in the international labour market.

Project Management Certificate

All PhD students will perform the Project Management Professional (PMP) course given by the Project Management Institute (PMI). The PMP is the gold standard of project management certification, recognized and demanded by organizations worldwide. The PMP validates the PhD student’s competence to perform in the role of a project manager, leading and directing projects and teams and will be an invaluable asset to increase employability of the PhD student in both academic and non-academic fields. The PhD student will follow 35 hours (3.5 ECTS) online training before completing the online exam at the PMI.
